Hello all,

 

My name is Jaimy Smits, and I am 17 years old and have been playing badminton for almost 4 years now.

 

I started playing badminton quite late, when I was 14 years old. First, I always played soccer in the first teams in the youth of a local soccer club in 's-Hertogenbosch. I kind of lost the challenge and then stopped playing soccer. Because my father also plays badminton, I already knew the sport a bit. My father made me very enthusiastic and I started playing badminton.

I started playing badminton at BCH in 's-Hertogenbosch and played that season in a U17 youth team. Because I quickly mastered the game, I was allowed to come play at the NBBJ in Boxtel. I followed (partly during the Corona time) my training sessions with a youth selection in Boxtel every Tuesday for 2 seasons, and received regular Saturday private training from Leon Florentinus in Oss. Because I really got a taste for it, I also started training extra at BCH on Mondays to get as many hours on the track as possible.

 

Falling behind my peers (with talent) I started playing tournaments from then on. During 2021- 2023 I played a lot of youth tournaments, including almost all Junior Master tournaments. I learned and lost a lot in those two seasons with the goal of quickly developing myself into a better player.

BCH gave me the opportunity to play competition on the Men's 1 team, with springs, so I could develop myself even faster and experience what it is like to play against adults. Last season I played in the 6th division and am currently training 2-3 times a week at BCH and on Saturdays with Leon Florentinus. Next season, I hope to play in the 4th division!

I play as many senior tournaments as possible and - since I am now under U19 - occasionally play a youth tournament, such as the NJK. My goal is to play as much as possible and keep challenging myself, so that I can get better in a relatively short time and hopefully win from as many (talented) players as possible.

 

You will also see me at many tournaments. I not only play the circuit tournaments in my own area (North Brabant) but also the (master) tournaments in other parts of the country. In the coming period I can be found at the tournaments GOVA, Amersfoort Masters, Almere Masters, NJK, Eind Best, Rijncup and Ulft. But it could just be that I will play one more tournament here and there.

This season I became champion with my team at BCH in the national league in the 6th division. Next year, I will again do my utmost to become champion with my team and win as many matches as possible. Having fun is very important to me and from that thought I try to convey my passion and dedicate myself as an ambassador for badminton shop KW FLEX and hopefully one day reach at least the 1st division!
