The importance of badminton stringing
How important is the stringing of badminton rackets? In our opinion this is one of the most important parts of a racket. It determines to a large extent how a badminton racket feels.
But which badminton racket are you going to buy? That is much more difficult for some players, unless you have a lot of experience and know which specifications suit your playing style. Even if you know all about it, a racket can always react differently to the court. That is why you can always contact us for extensive racket advice!
If you are going to immerse yourself in the matter, we would like to help you with a series of blogs that explain all sides of badminton rackets. Which string should I choose?
We distinguish two factors for a covering.
- Stringing power
- String choice
The most important of these two is the stringing power.
Badminton racket stringing power
A soft tension gives more Comfort and Power. And a hard tension especially has a lot more control and the potential for more Smash power. The correct tension is quite personal, but in general we can advise the following:
- For beginners 8-10 kg is normal.
- For advanced players 9 - 12 kg is normal.
- For advanced players at national level, 13+ kg is normal.
Is there a difference in tension force with feather and nylon shuttles?
Badminton players at different levels also use other shuttles. Recreational and less fanatic competition players will use nylon shuttles, while top badminton players and fanatic competition players will use feather shuttles. A different tension force is also suitable for these shuttles. If you play with feather shuttles, you can use one kilo / 2lbs more tension force compared to nylon shuttles.
Too hard or soft badminton stringing
A string can be too hard or too soft for each player.
The tension is too soft if you have too little feeling with a hard hit. The trampoline effect of the string bounces back too slowly compared to your stroke speed. Very frustrating!
On the other hand, the tension is too hard if you have a hard time hitting the shuttle in the back. The stringing feels like a plank and with every stroke you have to force to get the shuttle in the back. This can cause injuries!
If you hit the shuttle far too easily, it is best to try a harder tension.
What is important in a string?
The main differences with all strings are the string thickness and the composition of the string.
Thick strings give higher durability and thin strings give a lot more feeling plus they produce a sensational sound with every strike.
Which badminton strings are there?
There are many types of strings on the market. Yonex badminton strings are the most famous. But Victor badminton strings are also used by many top players. Of course there are also many other brands of strings that are good.
Strings have 5 properties:
- Durability
- Sound
- Shock absorption
- Control
- Resilience (Repulsion power)
